Well, isn’t this a lovely little reason to smile — and perhaps even do a happy dance!
The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg and one of our very own most special Residents, John, received a wonderful shout-out in the latest edition of WOW! Mail, the newsletter shared by Doug Stephen, President & CEO of WOW! Hospitality Concepts!
And the story behind the mention makes it all the more heart-warming. ❤️
Doug and John are longtime friends, dating all the way back to their boyhood days in Dauphin, Manitoba. Their friendship continued through John’s culinary career, when the two worked together for many years.
This Thanksgiving, Doug made a special visit to The Home, turkey dinner in hand, to catch up with his old friend. And, as friendships and good food so often do, the occasion created a lovely memory worth sharing!
We were especially touched that Doug chose to share John’s kind words about the care he receives and the wonderful staff who look after him. WOW, indeed!
While we are always grateful when The Home receives recognition, there is something particularly joyous about hearing such kind words from someone who actually calls The Home theirs. That is the recognition we treasure most!
(For those who may not be familiar with Doug, he is a celebrated Manitoba restaurateur, community champion, and philanthropist whose contributions have earned him numerous honours, including his recent appointment to the Order of Manitoba — our province’s highest honour! We are delighted that someone who has contributed so much to our community has taken the time to shine a little spotlight on ours.)
A heartfelt THANK YOU to Doug for sharing this lovely story, for being such a thoughtful friend to John, and for giving our entire Home a wonderful reason to smile!
We’ve included the excerpt from WOW News! October_13_26, complete with a terrific photo of two longtime friends enjoying a Thanksgiving visit.
Because at the end of the day, isn’t that what Home is all about? People, friendships, kindness and caring (and good food!). ❤️
