Our Giving Tree Has Grown!

Many may be familiar with the classic novel A Tree Grows in Brooklyn — a story about resilience, hope, and growth in unexpected places. Inspired by that spirit, we are delighted to share that a very special tree has now grown here at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg: our Giving Tree.

This beautiful installation has taken root thanks to the generosity of so many individuals who care deeply about the Residents who call The Home, their home. Each leaf represents the kindness and compassion of donors who have helped us undertake important initiatives to reimagine and reinvigorate life within our walls.

Through projects such as Rooms to Thrive, donor support is helping us enhance living spaces, create more welcoming environments, and ensure that our Residents experience moments of comfort, dignity, and joy each and every day.

And while we celebrate this milestone, our work is not yet complete. Our present focus is on enhancing our four-bed shared rooms, ensuring that every Resident enjoys surroundings that feel warm, comfortable, and truly home-like.

We warmly invite families and friends to visit The Home and see the Giving Tree in person. It is located just down the hallway of our Administrative offices. In many ways, it is not simply our tree — it is your Giving Tree, grown from the generosity and support of our community.

A Note About Donor Recognition
To help recognize donor generosity on the Giving Tree, we established the following recognition levels:

  • Friends: $250 – $4,999
  • Advocates: $5,000 – $9,999
  • Leaders: $10,000 – $49,999
  • Visionaries: $50,000+

While these levels guide the placement of leaves on the tree, we want to emphasize that every gift — of every size — makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our Residents.

Our hope is that this one Giving Tree will be just the beginning. In time, we would love to see a forest of Giving Trees throughout The Home, each one telling the story of a community that cares deeply for its elders.

Warmest regards,

Sherry Heppner
Development Coordinator

P.S. If you made a donation later last year or early this year and do not yet see your name on the tree, please know that this is simply due to the manufacturing cut-off date for the first set of leaves. We are already preparing the next group of inscriptions — so stay tuned, your name will be appearing soon.
