Visitation Updates – Launching Outdoor Visits – Effective Week of May 17, 2021

Effective the week of May 17 – outdoor visits for “general” and “designated” visitors are now able to be scheduled. For further information on “General visitors/outdoor visits” and “Designated visitors/indoor visits”, please consult the  pamphlets available at the following links:

Outdoor Resident Family Visits – May, 2021

Indoor Resident Family Visits – May, 2021

Please note that no visits (outdoor or indoor) will be scheduled for Sundays, nor any statutory holidays, such as May 24 (Victoria Day), July 1 (Canada Day), August 2 (Civic Holiday), and September 6 (Labor Day).

Note:  Extreme temperatures and/or inclement weather will have a direct impact on outdoor visits. We will also hope/pray for the best of summers (and rain only at night!) but some outdoor visits for “general visitors” due to weather-related issues may have to be cancelled or rescheduled, if possible.  We are unable to switch a “general visitor’s outdoor visit” to an “indoor visit”.

Booking of a Visit

As always, if you are interested in booking a visit, please email: with your request – kindly be as specific as possible with your ask (i.e., preferred days and times). A confirmation email in reply will be provided either same day or next day (Monday – Friday, excluding statutory holidays).

Reduction in Virtual Visits

In order to meet the demand of anticipated “in-person” visits – we will be reducing all scheduled virtual visits – moving to once per month for outside of Winnipeg Facetime/Skype, etc. visits. For those who live in Winnipeg, we encourage you to arrange an “in-person” visit, as opposed to a virtual visit. If this is not possible, we will work with you on a mutually doable booking of visits.

We value each and every one of our Residents and all of our families/friends. We recognize all the hardships and extreme stress loads that everyone has experienced and are still experiencing. Scheduling a visit (even multiple visits per week) in a restricted/controlled environment is not normal – but it appears as if this continues to be the way we must proceed for the present time (particularly when the community spread of the virus/its variants is rampant).  We request your indulgence in being flexible with scheduling of visits not to cause frustration or to be difficult, but in order to fit in as many visits as possible for as many of our Residents as possible. Additionally, there may be some afternoons where we do not accept bookings for visits in order to conduct a group recreation program with all of our Residents (i.e., such as a monthly Birthday Party, Ice Cream Day, special music event, etc.).

The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg reserves the right to suspend indoor/outdoor visits in the event of a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 virus or variant outbreak in the facility, local area, or upon the direction of the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer. Please stay up-to-date with the Provincial COVID-19 restrictions and COVID-19 screening tool at https://www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/updates.  Any visitor who does not respect the imposed guidelines as stated will be denied ongoing visitations.

Thank you, as always, for your support in respecting all restrictions as they apply to visiting your loved one and when out and about in the community. Let’s make this an amazing summer for all of us as we, potentially, look forward to a “restart” of routine days in the Fall.  Updates to our visitation arrangements will be provided as warranted.

Warmest regards,

Sherry Heppner
Development Coordinator
