Issued on behalf of Justin Lagace, Infection Prevention and Control, The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg
As you may have heard, the Manitoba government has released new Spring booster recommendations for the COVID-19 vaccine. The guidelines recommend that those at the highest risk for COVID-19 receive a booster vaccine this Spring – which includes long-term care residents who have not received a booster, or had a COVID-19 infection, in the last 6 months.
Our team will be calling the designated primary contact (family member, friend, POA) of eligible Residents over the course of the upcoming week to obtain consent of whether they wish their loved one to receive a booster shot this Spring. We anticipate booster doses will be given during the 2nd or 3rd week of April.
I also mention that we anticipate a Fall 2023 booster recommendation coming forward; it appears Manitoba Health will be targeting a 6-month interval for boosters for the foreseeable future for our Province’s high-risk population. You may want to keep this in mind should it affect your decision for this Spring booster.
