COVID 3rd Doses for Residents

As you may have heard, the province is funding a 3rd dose or booster dose of COVID vaccine to all Residents of Personal Care Homes a minimum of 6 months after their 2nd dose. This course of action stems from the possibility of decreased protection arising over time from the initial round of a complete COVID19 series (2 COVID vaccines).

We will be providing the Pfizer vaccine for the first round of booster immunizations as all our Residents who had their 2nd doses at least 6 months ago were immunized with the mRNA type Pfizer vaccine. Going forward, we will be looking to match the same type of mRNA vaccine as the 2nd dose vaccine whether it is Moderna or Pfizer which is the recommendation from Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Manitoba Public Health.

Starting this week, the Nursing Coordinators and/or our Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) Nurse will be calling each Resident’s primary contact (as per our records) to obtain consent for the COVID booster doses.

In preparation, for speaking with one of our nurses, we encourage your review of the COVID19 Vaccine Factsheet so that you are able to make an informed decision when providing consent or declining immunization for your loved one.

In the meantime of being contacted, if you have any questions regarding the 3rd/booster dose or about granting consent, please reach out to Monique Liarakos, our IP&C Nurse, at (204) 453-4663 ext. 206.

We aim to do all we can to make this a safe and healthy Fall/winter season for everyone!
